The Real Girls of Raw Generation: Confessions of Hardcore Herbivore

Speaking from personal experience, even a 100% plant-based diet doesn’t guarantee the same awesome results as habitual juicing. Often, I find myself hesitating to use the label “vegan” to describe myself. It seems to have acquired a negative connotation in so many people’s minds. They associate veganism with rabbit food, deprivation, and tofu (side note- soy is the worst for a variety of reasons and I won’t eat it). But I’m far too self-indulgent for any facet of my everyday life to be rooted in a philosophy of deprivation. I prefer to think of myself as a hardcore herbivore. An impassioned pro-plant prophet. A crusader for chlorophyll.  I’ve been vegan for about 4 years now, however, it wasn’t like I...

Why Soy Seriously Sucks

SOY IS NOT HEALTHY. When I tell people that I’ve gone vegan, an all-too-common response is, “Oh, so… what, you just eat a lot of, like,  tofu and stuff?” ...Or I’ll show up to a dinner party and the host greets me with a self-applauding, “Hey, I know you don’t eat meat so I marinated some tofu for you!” I force a polite grin, “Aw, you shouldn’t have…” No, but seriously- you shouldn’t have. Why? Most soy is genetically modified! If you’re not freaking out about GMO’s, you’re living under a rock. The rates of food-related illnesses and allergies have skyrocketed since GMOs became mainstream. Two of the most common offenders when it comes to adverse food reactions are soy...

5 Healthy Ways to Fall More in Love with Yourself

“If you don’t love yourself, you’ll always be chasing after people who don’t love you either” -- Mandy Hale Self-love is the foundation of true beauty, health, and well-being. Nourish your mind, body, and spirit with these 5 healthy habits: 1. Drink more water! Often we confuse dehydration for hunger and end up overeating. Is Frozen As Good As Fresh?

I wanted to answer this question to clear up some confusion/concerns about why we freeze our juices. Occasionally, we get customers contacting us because they were unaware that we freeze our juices and ask us questions like, 'isn't it supposed to be fresh?'. Here's the deal. Because we don't use any preservatives or heating techniques (pasteurization, gentle pasteurization, or high pressure processing {HPP}) the shelf life is roughly 3 days if kept in the refrigerator. Occasionally, they will last longer, but we can accurately say that all of our juices will be fresh for 3 days. That being said... 3 days is not enough time for us to make the juice, get it to you, and give you enough time to drink it...

5 Signs You May Be Vitamin & Mineral Deficient

Sometimes we get so busy and preoccupied with life that we stop listening to the signals that our body is using to try to communicate that something is wrong. These are a few of the ways your body may be screaming at you that it's lacking the nutrients it needs: SYMPTOM #1: Cracks at the corners of your mouth. The Deficiency: Iron, zinc, and B vitamins like niacin (B3), riboflavin (B2), and B12.  The Fix: Eat more sun-dried tomatoes, Swiss chard, tahini, peanuts, and legumes like lentils. Iron absorption is enhanced by vitamin C, which also helps fight infections, so combine these foods with veggies like kale, broccoli, red bell peppers, and cauliflower.   SYMPTOM #2: A red, scaly rash on your face (and sometimes elsewhere)...

Overweight is Just 1 Snack Away

You eat healthy and get skinny for bathing suit season, but as the weather gets colder, you slow down, veg out, and succumb to the winter blues. Sound familiar? Shorter, darker days and chillier weather can have a huge affect on the way we feel. For many people, feeling a little down can spark that urge for instant gratification... often in the form of self-indulgent snacking.  It starts off innocent: a co-worker brings in donuts or you have a hard day and treat yourself to a meal of warm, gooey mac n' cheese. Much like a drug, as you surrender to temptation here and there, it takes increasingly more of the same junk food to get that rush of pleasure, and you end up gaining weight...

Going Raw for Weight Loss? Here's How!

You've heard that raw foods are the best thing for your health, beauty, weight loss and weight management, but aside from fruit and vegetables, what are you actually supposed to eat on a raw diet? And do you need to eat 100% raw in order to see benefits?  The point of eating a partial to fully raw diet is to give your digestive system a rest and to replenish the nutrients your body needs to be healthy and vibrant. When your body senses that it is getting the optimal nutrition from raw foods, it switches out of famine mode. When you eat food devoid of nutrition your body holds onto fat. Once you start eating the right nutrients (found in raw foods) it releases...
