Caffeine-Free Ways to Have More Energy

Posted by on

It’s too late in the day to have caffeine, but you still have items to check off your to-do list… and you’re dragging. Here are 5 healthy and natural ways to boost your energy that won’t keep you up all night (and will support your weight loss goals!):

1. Stretch

You don’t have to be a yogi to reap the benefits of a good stretch. Stretching increases blood flow which means more energy and sharper concentration! An increase in circulation also reduces stress levels, helping you to tackle the remainder of your day with a positive outlook!

2. Drink a Green Juice

One serving of green juice provides an extremely rich dose of essential nutrients that your body needs to have more energy naturally including iron, magnesium, B vitamins, and amino acids. When you consume leafy greens like spinach and kale in their liquid form, you reap the benefits more quickly because the nutrition is instantly absorbed into your body without the delay of digestion. That means the energy boost you get will be instantaneous!

3. Essential Oil Aromatherapy

Essential oil aromatherapy invigorates your senses, quickly affects brain chemistry, and can work wonders for your energy and mental clarity. Stimulating oils like eucalyptus, peppermint, and cinnamon help relieve fatigue and can improve brain function, alertness, and memory. Citrus oils like wild orange, bergamot, grapefruit, and lemon are great for boosting your energy levels, motivation, and even your mood!

All you need to do is smell them! You can inhale your oils straight from the bottle or use a diffuser. Another option is to use your oils topically like a perfume, but be sure to use a carrier oil to dilute your essential oils so as to avoid skin irritation.

4. Snack on Magnesium-Rich Foods

The mineral magnesium plays a major role in many of the human body’s processes including energy production. However, it’s estimated that 80 percent of Americans have a magnesium deficiency! Lethargy and fatigue are two common indicators of a deficiency, so before you resort to chugging an energy drink, incorporate more of the right foods into your day.

Nuts, superfood seeds, avocados, quinoa, leafy greens, and bananas are a few magnesium-rich, plant-based foods that are great choices to snack on later in the day. You can never go wrong with a hemp smoothie or a green juice!

5. Hydrate

Oftentimes when we feel sluggish and unmotivated, dehydration is actually to blame. Even a slight lack of adequate hydration decreases the amount of blood getting to the brain, impacting our energy levels and mental clarity. If you don’t love drinking straight water, stay hydrated with herbal tea, fruit-infused water, coconut water, and/or fresh juice!
