Top 3 Foods You Should Avoid

There's something about bread, crackers, and pasta that is just comforting. is the one food that will lead to weight gain quickly. Why? In a nutshell, wheat turns into blood sugar very quickly which overwhelms your body and you end up storing the excess sugar as fat. This is a very simplistic explanation so if you want more info I highly suggest reading the book Wheat Belly by William Davis, MD. He gives a very thorough explanation of everything that wheat does to your body and how it wrecks your health.

But wait, I can't eat crackers or cheese? Nope, not if you want to lose weight easily. Besides the fact that most people are allergic to dairy (cow dairy that is), cheese is nutritionally worthless in the grand scheme of things.

By processed foods I mean mostly everything sold in the middle of the grocery store. It will come in a box of some sort, or a can, or a bag. You can tell easily if you look at the ingredient list. It will have more than 2 or 3 ingredients, and 9 times out of 10 there will be ingredients that you cannot pronounce. These should not be considered foods. They are made in a laboratory and not by nature, despite what the health claims say.

Your body runs on macro-nutrients (carbs, fats, proteins) and micro-nutrients (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, etc.). We have no problem getting enough carbs, protein, or fat because these three make up everything we eat, just in different ratios. What we do have a problem getting enough of are micro-nutrients. When your body is low on micro-nutrients it thinks there is a famine (even if you are getting enough calories) and it holds onto fat. When you start eating fresh raw foods full of micro-nutrients, it thinks the famine is over and will start burning the fat.

  1. Shop the perimeter of the grocery store (fruits, vegetables, meats, fish). The few exceptions to this are beans, legumes, canned vegetables, frozen fruits, berries, and vegetables- which will be in the center of the store.

  2. Do not buy anything that has more than 3 ingredients.

  3. Count your fruit & vegetable servings instead of calories or grams of fat. The higher your fresh food intake, the easier you will lose weight.

  4. Incorporate fresh raw juice in your day to increase your veggie and fruit intake, meet your nutrient requirements, and stave off cravings for the foods mentioned above!
